Are You a Climber, a Hiker, or a Runner?
How do you motivate your team to go the extra mile?
Are you having difficulties motivating employees? Do buzzwords like “Quiet Quitting” and “the Great Resignation” cause you unease? As an employer or supervisor, what type of motivator are you? How do you motivate your team to go the extra mile? Are You a Climber, a Hiker, or a Runner?
Today’s Tip of the Week is from Jessica Stillman, Contributor, Inc.Com @EntryLevelRebel
Stillman discusses the three broad motivational types – lessons learned from Nir Zicherman, VP and Global Head of Audiobooks and Gated Content at Spotify. Zicherman conceived that there were three motivational types, Climbers, Hikers, and Runners.
Climbers: driven by what their actions unlock
Hikers: they hike unknown trails, and
Runners: people who know what they’re good at.
Stillman reiterates that what sets Zicherman’s framework apart is its intuitive simplicity.
“By knowing the type, managers can get a better sense of what drives each employee so they can better support them in reaching their goals “ ~Zicherman
Which of the three types do you lean more towards? A combination? All three? A fun read, insightful, and thought-provoking. Makes you ask some important questions, “who is willing to work long hours with lots of stress, and what makes your people tick on a deeper level?”
