Digital transformation – a matter of survival
Still, think that digital transformation is just a trend? There are a number of trains of thought on the matter. We’ll look at one this week.
Tip of the week comes from Marc Emmer President of Optimize Inc., a management consulting firm specializing in strategic planning. A sixteen-year Vistage member and Vistage speaker.
In his article Emmer’s Why digital transformation is a matter of survival he cites Siebel founder Thomas Siebel who refers to “digital transformation — the confluence of cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence and the internet of things (IoT) — as a “mass extinction event.”
He expresses his belief that entire industries and businesses will implement digital technologies, or be eliminated. He discusses big data and advanced analytics as the driving force.
By employing digital transformation he suggests this will redefine the core product which in turn will create and transform innovative demand. He gives an insightful overview of four digital technologies.
1. Cloud computing
2. Artificial intelligence
3. Big data is comprised
4. The Internet of Things (IoT)
He offers readers a starting point and a progressive look into what private companies are observing, and how larger companies are already posed to invest in cutting-edge technologies. Many have already equipped themselves with emerging tech providers who can provide SaaS ( software-as-a-service), PaaS (platforms as a service), Laas (infrastructure as a service), and AI.
